Stories That Spark Imagination
At Hey Annie Books, we believe children's stories can be silly, surprising, funny, and meaningful all at once.
Our books encourage children to use their imaginations while exploring ideas like friendship, community, kindness, choices, and the consequences of our actions. We're creating stories for curious kids who aren't afraid to ask questions, laugh at the unexpected, and imagine what might happen next.
Our Story
Randy Hamilton, was once the host of an all Indigenous radio program known as "Right Deadly Radio Show," in Halifax Nova Scotia, in which he had a segment that he called "Deadly Advice From Uncle." In this segment he would give humorous but horrible advice to his listeners assuming the role of a crazy uncle. This Idea eventually became the basis of his first children's book, "Stories From Uncle, The Muskrat and the Weasel."
After about two years, and winning the Neskie Manuel Award for Aboriginal Affairs & Culture Programming, "Right Deadly Radio Show" was unfortunately removed from the air.
Randy, and his family moved back home to Sipekne'katik, where he just so happened to live across the street from his cousin Annie. Whenever Randy was out in the yard and Annie came out of her house, he would yell, "HEY ANNIE!!!," and the two of them would yell at each other from across the street, and usually Annie was right sassy!!! It made Randy smile and laugh every time....
